Towards the future on Cultural and Creative Industries: 5 innovative projects co-funded by the PR-FESR 2021-2027 call for strategic industrial research projects

Thanks to the funds of the European Program of the European Fund for Regional Development, the Emilia-Romagna Region, with the call for strategic industrial research projects addressed to the priority areas of the Smart Specialization Strategy PR-FESR 2021-2024, co-finances R&D projects presented by reasearch labs, universities, research bodies and organizations accredited to the Region’s High Technology Network.

MISTER, in the Cultural and Creative Industries sector, is involved, both as Lead Partner and partner, in 5 research projects covering a wide range of areas, from virtual reality to the conservation of cultural heritage, providing cutting-edge solutions that combine technology and creativity to promote innovation and cultural growth. These projects grasp, specifically, to the S3 Regional Specialization Area named “Territorial Heritage and regional identity: cultural goods and contents, creative activities, tourism and Made in Emilia-Romagna products”.

AROMA: A RevOlutionary device for sMell sensing in virtual reAlity

The AROMA project aim to revolutionize the virtual reality experience by integrating the sense of smell. While the senses of sight and hearing have been widely explored, the sense of smell has remained largely neglected.  However, studies show that the combination of images and aromas can greatly enhance the user experience. AROMA aims to develop a compact and practical device that synchronises the diffusion of aromas with the images projected by the virtual reality system, thus offering a more immersive and engaging perception of the virtual world.

Led by the lead partner REDOX, MISTER, Fondazione REI and the companies Caffè Cagliari, Società Agricola La Ca’ dal Non Acetaia 1883 and Wear collaborate in the AROMA project.

 

ATLANTE – Technological Archives for the Liberation, Access, Navigation and Transmission of Cultural Heritage

ATLANTE is a project aimed at digitising and making accessible cultural heritage stored in museum archives through an innovative platform. This platform will use artificial intelligence algorithms to create 3D models from real artifacts, facilitating cataloguing and enabling users to interactively explore cultural heritage through virtual and augmented reality.

MISTER is the project leader of ATLANTE, in which Research Centre on Cultural and Creative Industries of the University of BolognaRomagnaTech, the Interdepartmental Centre En&Tech of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and the companies Pavarotti International 23 and Spindox collaborate.

Craft TrainER – Innovative tools for the new generations’ approach to craft professions

Craft TrainER aims to introduce new generations to craft professions through innovative training approaches and gamification. Using motion capture technology and virtual reality, the project aims at creating engaging experiences that will increase interest in craft professions and foster generational turnover in Made in Emilia-Romagna companies.

Led by the lead partner RomagnaTech,  MISTER, the Interdepartmental Centre for ICT Industrial Research, the Research Centre on Cultural and Creative Industries of the University of BolognaCERCAL and the companies  Giglioli Production and Punto Art collaborate in the Craft TrainER project.

GIGAPIXEL: Gigapixel Imaging and large-format paintings

GIGAPIXEL aims to enhance the regional historical, artistic and cultural heritage by creating high-resolution digital replicas of drawings, manuscripts and paintings using Gigapixel imaging technology. These replicas will be accessible through immersive virtual reality interfaces, allowing visitors to explore large-scale works of art in detail in an unprecedented way.

Led by the lead partner the Research Centre on Cultural and Creative Industries of the University of Bologna (CRICC), MISTER, the Interdepartmental Centre for ICT Industrial Research, the Interdepartmental Research Centre on Digital Humanities of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and the companies RE:LAB and Atlantia Studio are collaborating in the GIGAPIXEL project.

MAPS: Museum repository objects: Access and Preservation System for conservation and management in the Metaverse environment

MAPS focuses on the preservation and management of cultural heritage stored in museum repositories, offering an integrated approach for risk reduction and digital accessibility to assets. Through the use of innovative technologies, MAPS aims to create a virtual environment in the metaverse for museum collections, enabling users to explore and interact with cultural heritage in an immersive way.

led by the lead partner TekneHub, MISTER, REDOX, Consorzio Futuro in Ricerca and the companies E-Soft, TryeCo 2.0, Kilowatt and Leonardo collaborate in the MAPS project.

 

These projects represent an important step forward in the integration of technology and culture, offering innovative solutions to enrich our digital experiences and preserve our cultural heritage for future generations.
